Resumo da palestra: Emerging markets have achieved fast growth rates over the past 10 years, but they still lag behind developed countries in several key areas such as human development, institutional competence, transparency levels and other social features. Prof. Rodrigues will argue that the dominant academic view of economic growth in markets providing superior mechanisms to incentivise economic activity is not always helpful.

The professor will define the concept of institutional voids and discuss some examples mainly in the Brazilian context and propose a model that puts together factors explain how they emerge, in order to indicate how institutions and organizations can address the issue of voids.
